SILICON OSCILLATORS:
Linear
Technologys new LTC6905 silicon oscillator sets a new standard for
integrated timing solutions. Unlike crystal oscillators, the solid-state LTC6905
does not rely on mechanical resonating elements, giving it high immunity to acceleration,
shock, and vibration. It also features a fast clean startup, operation over -40°C
to +125°C, and low power consumption, making it ideal for many applications
including USB, RS-232, I2C and SPI-based systems. This tiny SOT-23 device is available
in a range of fixed-frequency versions (LTC6905-xxx) and a programmable-frequency
version (LTC6905).
The
LTC6905-xxx fixed frequency oscillators are simple and accurate; they require
no external trim components and achieve a maximum frequency error of ±1.5%
with stability of 20ppm/°C. A three-state divider pin enables division of
the master clock frequency by 1, 2, or 4. This provides the ability to slow the
clock to save system power, and enables these products to cover popular frequencies
from 20MHz to 133MHz.
The
LTC6905 programmable frequency device uses a single resistor, RSET, and a three-state
divider pin to generate frequencies from 17MHz to 170MHz. A proprietary feedback
loop maintains a precise relationship between RSET and the master frequency. Using
a 0.1% accurate external RSET resistor typically achieves better than 0.6% accuracy
from 0°C to 70°C and a temperature coefficient of 20ppm/°C.
Available
now, the LTC6905 is part of a broader family of Linear Technology oscillators
covering a frequency range of 1kHz to 170MHz. |
