Marvell's Physical Layer Transceiver Families

Marvell demonstrates industry leadership in the innovation and development of transceiver solutions for the broadband communications industry; continuously providing advanced products to networking OEMs that deliver reliable performance, faster throughput, higher density and a simple plug-and-play functionality.

The Marvell Alaska X 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Alaska Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet Physical Layer (PHY) families of transceivers provide a range of solutions to meet the unique configurations and requirements of your communications systems; enabling you to build optimized form, efficient power consumption and multiple port and cable options into your customer solutions.

10 Gigabit Ethernet Solutions

The most widely-used 10 Gigabit transceivers in the industry, the Marvell Alaska X family is targeted for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and backplane and stacking applications that demand low power, high performance and a small form factor. Optimized for 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN and WAN implementations, the Marvell Alaska X transceivers provide unprecedented functionality to optimize a variety of 10 Gigabit physical layer applications.

Devices include single and dual-port XGMII to XAUI and serial 10 Gigabit transceivers. The devices feature IEEE 802.3ae compliant PCS, PMA, WIS, and XGXS functionality, while supporting industrial standard management interface through their MDIO ports. The device’s small form factor and low power consumption make it ideal for XENPAK, XPAK, X2, and XFP fiber optic modules.

Marvell Semiconductor’s 10G portfolio includes:

• XAUI – XFI Physical Layer Devices in both LAN only and LAN/WAN (integrated WIS) support
• XGMII – XFI Physical Layer Devices in both LAN only and LAN/WAN (integrated WIS) support
• Single and Dual-Port XGMII < -- > XAUI XGXS devices

FEATURES:

10 Gigabit Ethernet PHYs:

  • Selectable WAN interface sub-layer
  • IEEE 802.3ae XAUI parallel interface
  • XFI compliant serial 10 G interface
  • 9.953 Gbps data rate
  • On-chip clock generation and clock recovery
  • On chip 64B/66B encoder/decoder
  • IEEE 802.3ae MDIO interface
  • IEEE 1149.1 JTAG test interface
