Nu
Horizons Electronics Corp. Receives C-TPAT Customs Certification
Certification Awarded For Meeting Strict Requirements
by U.S. Customs To Ensure High Security Levels within
the Company's Global Supply Chain
Melville,
New York - March 16, 2004 - Nu Horizons Electronics
Corp. (NASDAQ:NUHC), a leading distributor of high technology
active components, today announced that the company has
met stringent guidelines to receive the Customs Trade
Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) certification from
the U.S. Customs and Borders Protection, a division of
the Department of Homeland Security. The C-TPAT program
is a joint initiative between the U.S. government and
certified businesses to cultivate cooperative relationships
based upon the integrity of a company's security practices.
These practices are vital in maintaining an overall efficient
and compliant supply chain and strengthened border security.
To
receive its C-TPAT certification, Nu Horizons completed
a comprehensive application process which involved extensive
analysis of the company's supply chain product flow. The
analysis included documenting the organizations procedural,
physical and personnel security, as well as communicating
the C-TPAT security guidelines to all of its suppliers,
carriers and forwarders.
Arthur
Nadata, president and chief executive officer for Nu Horizons
states, "Nu Horizons recognizes that there is a fundamental
relationship between a safe and secure supply chain and
the economic success of business enterprises and the global
community. Through the committed and collaborative efforts
of our worldwide staff, transportation and logistic personnel,
we are very proud to meet the security requirements necessary
to achieve this important designation, which we consider
to be the right thing to do to promote positive security
practices within the distribution industry."
Some
of the major benefits of receiving C-TPAT certification
include:
- Fewer
cargo border inspections of goods, leading to reduced
border times
- The
assignment of an account representative from U.S. Customs
and Border Protection to address questions
- Access
to U.S. Government anti-terrorism seminars, and the
sharing of industry best practices
