Semiconductor (America) Partners with Nu Horizons in Latest
Step Toward Focused, Consolidated Distribution Strategy
New
channel strategy helps Hitachi drive technology demand
and customer value
San
Jose, Calif. - (October 2, 2000) -- Hitachi Semiconductor
(America) Inc. today announced a partnership with Nu Horizons
Electronics Corp. (NASDAQ: NUHC), a national distributor
of electronic components, in its latest move toward a
comprehensive distribution strategy.
Nu
Horizons will distribute products from all of Hitachi's
product lines, including its popular SuperH microprocessor
and H8 microcontroller families, in a wide variety of
markets.
"Hitachi's
distribution strategy is a direct result of the increasing
product portfolio and technology that we continue to drive
into the marketplace. We are looking to create more demand
for Hitachi technology products and to tap into the value
propositions that our distributors offer," said Scott
K. Lindberg, Director of Distribution Sales, at Hitachi
Semiconductor. "Distributors such as Nu Horizons
align with our local and regional market needs while allowing
us to reach a broader customer-base because of their focused
line card. We expect this relationship with Nu Horizons
to better serve all."
The
addition of Nu Horizons to Hitachi's distribution channel
compliments its current distribution line-up of Avnet,
Reptron and Insight. While Avnet serves as a global partner
for Hitachi into U.S. markets and other countries, Nu
Horizons, Reptron and Insight can provide the national
and regional focus needed for emerging accounts in the
personal information electronics (PIE) space in the U.S.
Nu
Horizons' Focused Distribution Lines
Hitachi chose Nu Horizons as one of its distributors because
of its strategic fit. Nu Horizons had a desire to augment
the technology it offers to its established customer base
of original equipment manufacturers in the U.S. Nu Horizons'
customers are a direct fit for the products Hitachi delivers--which
are smaller, portable, highly functional and intelligent
semiconductors that deliver higher performance with lower
power dissipation and lower cost.
"We're excited at the strategic fit between our companies,"
states Arthur Nadata, President and CEO, of Nu Horizons.
"Our organization prides itself in providing technology-based
solutions for our customers and suppliers. We partner
with a small number of world-leading high tech suppliers
and work particularly closely with rapidly growing customers
in the communications and industrial market sectors. Hitachi's
product offerings, including its leading micro, optical
and RF devices, fit perfectly with our other suppliers,
bringing our customers and our suppliers access to powerful
new solutions."
Nu
Horizons will distribute the full line of Hitachi's products,
including Microcontrollers (H8 series 8-bit and 16-bit
Microcontrollers and Flash Microcontrollers), Microprocessors
(32-bit SuperH Microprocessors and Communication ICs),
SRAM, Non-Volatile Memory, Logic ICs, Discrete Devices,
Optoelectronic Devices, RF/Wireless ICs and Mass Storage
ICs.
Comprehensive
Distribution Coverage
Today 25% of Hitachi's products are sold through its distribution
channel, which is 35% more than projected two years ago.
Hitachi's increased revenue in its distribution channel
is forecasted to climb even higher in the future, in direct
response to the company's movement towards more strategic
technology selling; and to the increasing value distribution
companies are bringing to the electronics manufacturing
supply chain.
With
its current lineup of distributors, Hitachi is positioning
itself to cover the global electronics distribution market
and to better provide its customers with the technology-leading
chips--plus the
added value--required to bring products quickly to market
in today's Internet-driven world. These relationships
and products offer greater market and customer penetration
and will drive increased revenue for Hitachi and its distribution
partners.
