Sharp
Microelectronics and Nu Horizons Announce North American
Distribution Agreement
CAMAS,
Wash. and MELVILLE, NY – February 5, 2003 – Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas and Nu Horizons
Electronics Corp. (NASDAQ:NUHC) today announced an agreement
establishing Nu Horizons as an authorized distributor
for Sharp’s full line of microcontrollers, memory,
optoelectronics and LCD display products. The agreement
encompasses selling rights for North America.
Under
the terms of the partnership, Nu Horizons will represent
Sharp’s core digital technologies and components
for Internet appliances, industrial, telecommunications
and home/office automation markets in North America. This
agreement represents an extension of Sharp’s commitment
to the North American design community and strengthens
its ability to provide to its customers a full range of
integrated solutions to reduce their time to market for
applications developed here.
“When
developing distribution agreements, we look to partner
with companies that understand the design requirements
of our customers,” said Qais Sharif, Vice President
of Sales for Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas. “Nu
Horizons’ limited semiconductor line card and its
focused engineering resources make it a good resource
to promote Sharp’s products, particularly system-on-chip.
Nu Horizons has a demonstrated track record of working
with our target customers from the earliest stages of
the design process to provide exactly the right components
and technical expertise for their entire system design.”
“Sharp’s
leadership in LCDs, combined with their system-on-chip
technology and their synergistic product lineup give Nu
Horizons an established position marketing a complete
system solution,” said Dave Bowers, executive vice
president of sales and marketing at Nu Horizons. “The
addition of Sharp’s broad line of products adds
higher-level solutions for our customer base, and we are
confident that the knowledge and expertise of our sales
and field engineering teams will be effective in winning
designs and gaining marketshare for Sharp.”
