This portal, accessible at http://www.nuhorizons.com/lead-free, is designed to aid Nu Horizons' customers in preparation for the European Union (EU) electronic industry directives restricting the use of hazardous substances, such as lead (Pb), in the manufacture of all electrical and electronic equipment.

The use of Pb has long been recognized as a harmful environment pollutant. OEM initiatives and legislation are being implemented globally to drive the removal of Pb and other harmful materials from electronic products as a result of the edicts of two EU directives: the Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS), addressing the use of certain materials in electrical and electronic equipment, and the Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) which also has significant implications for all manufacturers.
