Horizons Electronics Corp. Announces Availability of Embedded
Development Kit (EDK) 7.1i Featuring New Xilinx MicroBlaze
4.0 Soft Processor |

NY - May 20, 2005 - Nu Horizons Electronics Corp.
(NASDAQ:NUHC), a leading distributor of high technology
active components; today announced the availability of
the Embedded Development Kit (EDK) 7.1i, featuring the
performance-optimized 4.0 version of the MicroBlaze
soft processor, recently released from Xilinx, Inc.. The
EDK is priced at $495.00 and includes Platform Studio
7.1i development tools, hardware and software IP support
for MicroBlaze and PowerPC405, and the new MicroBlaze
4.0 customized soft processing core. To provide customers
with a multitude of flexible purchasing and bundling options,
Nu Horizons is also offering four additional hardware/software
kits, when the initial EDK7.1i kit is purchased.
The
Xilinx MicroBlaze 4.0 32-bit RISC "soft" processor
core now operates at frequencies up to 200 MHz in Virtex-4
FPGAs, delivering a 25 percent increase in core performance
compared to prior versions. This solution also includes
a scaleable processor feature set providing designers
with pre-built configuration options to match target application
requirements. Designers can now choose greater mathematical
accuracy and flexibility for their designs to fully customize
performance without significant cost penalty, resulting
in extended product life cycles and faster time to market.

Horizons' special bundled kits are available in four specific
board options when purchasing the EDK 7.1i kit. Each respective
kit includes: a development board, Xilinx Chipscope
pro-evaluation CD, power supply, programming cable, Xilinx
ISE Foundation software tools and reservation information
to attend the Nu Horizons Embedded Design Workshop, featuring
the new MicroBlaze 4.0.
