Nu
Horizons Electronics Corp. Announces ARM-based Regional Training Seminar Series
with Oki Semiconductor and IAR Systems
Seminars
Feature Oki's New Lowest Cost Advantage Microcontroller Evaluation Kit (AME-51)
and IAR's Software Development Tools
Melville,
NY - August 8, 2005 - Nu Horizons Electronics Corp. (NASDAQ:NUHC), a leading
distributor of advanced technology active components and system solutions, today
announced the launch of a multi-city training seminar series co-sponsored with
Oki Semiconductor, a leading technology partner for the new era of digital communications
and convergence; and IAR Systems, one of world's leading providers of programming
tools for embedded systems. Each regional training seminar focuses on Oki's new
Advantage Microcontroller Evaluation Kit (AME-51) - which is the lowest-priced
'complete-in-one-box' ARM-based solution in the industry targeted for designers
of electronic consumer, industrial, automotive, medical devices and general embedded
systems. All training pre-registrants will be able to purchase Oki's AME-51 Evaluation
Kit through Nu Horizons at an introductory rate of $199.00 (in comparison to the
suggested retail price of $249.00), in addition to receiving a 50% discount certificate
for an upgrade to IAR's Base Line (256KB of object code) or IAR's Full (with source
for C and C++ Libraries, unlimited code size) Embedded Workbench.
Due
to the ground breaking MSRP of AME-51, Oki offers engineers the opportunity to
investigate 32-bit ARM architectures - and specifically the Oki 4050/4060 series
of Advantage MCUs - inclusive of the world's smallest ARM®. This brings ARM
power to the price point of 8- and 16-bit tools, enabling easy migration into
the 32-bit world. Training seminar attendees will benefit from a guided tour of
Oki's AME-51 and its features and benefits, in order to quickly take advantage
of the fully featured ARM7 evaluation kit to compress their engineering time,
and hasten product market release.
In
addition to formal presentations on Oki's ARM strategy and 4050/4060 Advantage
Microcontroller Series, training participants will conduct hands on lab exercises
utilizing IAR Systems Embedded Workbench for ARM, which is the complete integrated
development environment included with the AME-51 kit. Additional labs include
focusing on various project management options and features; using C-SPY's Instruction
Set Simulator to simulate ARM target; loading and executing application code on
the target Oki AME-51 board using C-SPY JTAG Debugger; using various C-SPY features
in a real-world debug session; flash programming using C-SPY debugger; and exercises
consisting of code modification, compilation, execution and JTAG debugging techniques
on AME-51 ARM target board.
"Design
engineers can now invest one day with industry professionals to discover, evaluate
and purchase the new low cost AME-51 evaluation kit for Oki's ARM7 and IAR's innovative
development tools," said Athar Zafar, vice president of global engineering
at Nu Horizons. "Training seminars such as this one are a wonderful opportunity
to obtain the latest information on enhanced performance breakthrough products
to help designers gain a distinct competitive advantage."
Commenting
on the joint sponsorship of the new ARM-based Seminar Series, David Pelavin, senior
director, Logic Business Development, Oki Semiconductor said, "We are pleased
to co-sponsor this comprehensive training seminar series with IAR Systems and
Nu Horizons to showcase our latest technologies. The Oki and IAR tools not only
simplifies the evaluation process for designers, but reduces evaluation costs
while delivering superior value to end users. This informative training series
offers all the tools necessary for engineers to compress their design time and
quicken release of their products into the market."
"IAR
Systems is excited to partner with Oki and Nu Horizons to create this informative
training series," said Nadim Shehayed, general manager for the Americas,
IAR Systems Software Inc. "Our commitment to the ARM market is strengthened
with the support of OKI's latest powerful ARM-based device. The IAR open architecture
allows plug-in modules from both IAR and its third party partners to improve the
toolkit continuously. The Kit includes the IAR C/C++ Optimized Compiler, lots
of libraries, and C-SPY JTAG Debugger in one integrated development environment."
The
rollout of these multi-city AME-51 seminars commences on Tuesday, September 13
in Dallas, TX; Tuesday, September 27 in Eden Prairie, MN; Tuesday, October 11
in Atlanta, GA; Tuesday, October 18 in Boston, MA; Tuesday, October 25 in Irvine,
CA and Tuesday, November 1 in San Jose, CA.
