There are many tool options when developing with the STM32. This will help navigate through determining which is right for your application, needs and budget. There are 3 categories that we will highlight here:

Evaluation Tools These are inexpensive units that enable the demonstration of some of the STM32’s capabilities. They allow to program the flash memory and to evaluate the different peripherals such as CAN, USB, etc… using example code that is available from ST. These kits have some debug capabilities – but they are VERY limited. Its flash memory based debug – through the USB port. These tools are primarily for DEMONSTRATION PURPOSES



Starter Kits / Development Kits These are TRUE development systems – they allow for full featured debug via JTAG. These have all the necessary hardware and software that would allow the customer to design, develop, integrate and test their applications C / C++ Compilers with example projects based on ST firmware libraries (limited code space)



Full Compiler Systems Allows for additional coding limits on software – up to unlimited code space
